A Digital and Print Magazine Celebrating Mid-Century Architecture and Design

Building out the Mid-Century Gems concept from the ground up easily ranks in my top three most loved projects of all time. With a background in art and architecture, I can’t help but geek out over design—and the mid-century era? It’s timeless. The clean lines, innate connection to nature, inclusion of courtyards and sunrooms, and unapologetically functional vibes? Absolutely breathtaking. It’s a style that tells a story of living simply yet meaningfully—blending nostalgia with an inherently futuristic and cool aesthetic.

For this project, I was all in—every detail, every decision, every moment of crafting a brand that celebrates the elegance of mid-century design was driven by my passion for this era. From the initial concept to the final launch, I spearheaded every element of bringing Mid-Century Gems to life.

Starting with the brand itself, I developed the identity from scratch, crafting a logo, color palette, and typography that embodied the clean, sleek lines of mid-century design while feeling fresh and modern. The visual elements were all about balance—combining retro-inspired hues with timeless simplicity to create a brand that honors the past while looking toward the future.

Next came the website. I designed and built a user-friendly platform that captures the spirit of mid-century design at every turn. Clean layouts, thoughtful typography, and immersive imagery guide visitors through a seamless digital experience that feels like stepping into a perfectly curated mid-century home. The copy was equally intentional—crafted to celebrate the charm of the era while connecting with a modern audience.

Content creation was another key part of this project. I produced blog posts, curated galleries, and designed downloadable resources that highlight mid-century design’s unique features, tips for incorporating it into modern living, and the stories behind some of the era’s most iconic homes and furnishings. Everything was designed to educate, inspire, and foster a genuine love for this timeless aesthetic.

I also took the lead on social media strategy, creating a visual grid that showcased stunning mid-century spaces and sharing engaging posts that built a community of like-minded enthusiasts. The goal? To make Mid-Century Gems more than just a brand—to make it a destination, a celebration, and a resource for all things mid-century.

This project was a labor of love, and seeing it come to life—connecting with people who share a passion for mid-century design—has been one of the most fulfilling parts of my creative journey. Mid-Century Gems isn’t just a project; it’s a testament to the beauty of design, the power of storytelling, and the magic that happens when you pour your heart into something you truly love.

Project Highlights

The Mid-Century Gems website, first launched in 2022, showcased the client’s vision for celebrating mid-century design and culture through an engaging online magazine. By 2024, as their brand and audience grew, the client approached us to undertake a complete website transformation. This overhaul not only modernized the site’s design and functionality but also aligned it with an ambitious new business model.

As part of this evolution, we worked closely with the client to expand their offerings, integrating a physical print magazine alongside the original online publication. This strategic shift allowed them to reach a broader audience, blending the timeless appeal of print with the accessibility of digital content. The redesigned website seamlessly supports both formats, providing a cohesive platform that reflects the brand’s growth while staying true to its mid-century aesthetic roots.

This collaboration exemplifies how innovative design and strategic planning can help brands adapt, thrive, and connect with their audiences in meaningful ways.
